Luxury Shower Aquarium Integrated Into Custom Bathroom Design in Manasquan NJ
Luxury Shower Aquarium Integrated Into Custom Bathroom Design in Manasquan NJ
Project Overview
This luxury shower aquarium was designed as a custom reef aquarium integrated directly into a bathroom and shower space in a beach home in Manasquan NJ.
The aquarium includes a main viewing panel from inside the shower and a second viewing panel from the adjacent sitting room. This allows the reef display to be experienced from both the bathroom and the surrounding living space.
Rather than treating the aquarium as a separate feature, the system was designed into the architecture of the bathroom, tile work, shower layout, and nearby millwork.
Dual-View Shower Aquarium Design
The aquarium was designed with viewing panels on both sides of the wall. One side faces the shower, creating an immersive bathroom experience, while the opposite side opens to the sitting room.
This dual-view layout makes the aquarium part of both spaces instead of limiting it to one room. It also required careful coordination between the aquarium design, shower layout, bathroom finishes, and service access.
Because the aquarium is located in a wet bathroom environment, the project required additional planning for waterproofing, ventilation, lighting, and long-term maintenance access.
Bathroom Integration and Installation Planning
Installing an aquarium inside a bathroom requires more planning than a standard built-in aquarium.
The surrounding wall, tile work, shower area, and support structure all needed to be coordinated around the aquarium. Waterproofing and moisture control were also important parts of the design because the aquarium is located directly within the bathroom environment.
The filtration and maintenance equipment were concealed in custom millwork in the adjacent sitting room, allowing service access without disrupting the finished bathroom design.

Aquarium Installation Before Aquascaping
Before the reef rockwork, coral, and livestock were installed, the aquarium system was fully integrated into the surrounding bathroom architecture and viewing areas.
This phase of the project allowed the aquarium structure, waterproofing details, viewing panels, and service access to be finalized before the reef environment was created.
The clean built-in appearance required careful coordination between the aquarium installation, tile work, cabinetry, and surrounding architectural finishes.
Final Living Room Aquarium Display
The completed aquarium creates a unique architectural feature that can be viewed from both the luxury shower and adjacent living space.
From the living room side, the aquarium functions as a built-in reef display while still maintaining visibility and connection to the surrounding bathroom design.
This project combined custom aquarium fabrication, waterproof integration, concealed filtration planning, cabinetry coordination, and long-term reef system design into one fully integrated installation.
Unlike decorative inserts or artificial displays, this aquarium was designed as a fully operational live reef system intended for long-term stability and maintenance access.
