Custom Freshwater Aquarium and Fish Tank Installation for Nursing Home in West Orange NJ

Custom Freshwater Aquarium and Fish Tank Installation for Nursing Home in West Orange NJ

Custom freshwater aquarium installed between a nursing home conference room and hallway in West Orange New Jersey

Project Overview

As part of a major renovation project in West Orange, NJ, this nursing home was undergoing a transformation aimed at creating a brighter and more welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

Throughout the facility, older enclosed spaces were opened up, lighting was improved, and glass walls were incorporated to replace the darker, closed-in feel that existed previously. One area receiving special attention was a conference room located along a main hallway. The renovation team wanted to maintain the open feel created by the glass walls while still providing a degree of separation between the conference room and surrounding space.

We were brought into the project by a design team specializing in nursing home renovations. Aqua Creations regularly works alongside architects, designers, contractors, and construction teams on healthcare and commercial projects where a custom aquarium or custom fish tank becomes part of a larger renovation effort.

A custom freshwater aquarium provided the perfect solution. Positioned between the conference room and hallway, the aquarium helps define the space while creating a feature that can be enjoyed from both sides throughout the day.

Conference Room Aquarium Design and Planning

One of the primary goals of the renovation was to create a more open and inviting environment throughout the facility.

The conference room was redesigned using glass walls to allow more light to move through the space and help eliminate the closed-off feeling often found in older nursing homes. While the glass walls created openness, the conference room still required some separation and privacy from the hallway.

Rather than relying entirely on traditional walls, the freshwater fish tank became part of the solution.

Positioned between the conference room and hallway, the custom aquarium creates a visual divider without making the area feel closed off. Residents, visitors, and staff can enjoy the aquarium from either side while the conference room maintains a comfortable level of separation from the surrounding hallway.

The finished installation became more than just a fish tank. It became part of the overall renovation while contributing to the bright, updated appearance of the facility.

Custom Aquarium and Fish Tank Installation

Like many commercial aquarium installations, careful planning was required long before the aquarium was placed into the space.

The aquarium was designed to work alongside the surrounding glass wall system that forms the conference room enclosure. Coordination between the aquarium installation, glass walls, and surrounding finishes ensured the final result looked clean and intentional from both viewing sides.

To maintain the clean appearance of the display, all filtration equipment was concealed within the aquarium base. The tank was drilled through the bottom, allowing plumbing connections to remain hidden rather than running over the top or hanging inside the aquarium.

This eliminated visible filters, pumps, and plumbing lines from the display while maintaining full access for future service and maintenance.

Unlike a standard fish tank purchased from a retail store, this custom aquarium was designed specifically for the space and coordinated with the larger renovation project from the beginning.

Completed Freshwater Aquarium

Today the freshwater aquarium can be enjoyed from both the conference room and hallway sides of the installation.

From inside the conference room, the aquarium creates a natural conversation piece while adding color and movement to the space. From the hallway, residents, visitors, and staff are greeted by a living display that changes throughout the day as fish move through the aquarium.

Unlike artwork or decorative finishes that remain unchanged, a freshwater aquarium is always active. Fish movement, lighting, and aquatic décor help bring life to the surrounding environment while complementing the goals of the larger renovation.

Projects like this demonstrate how a custom aquarium or custom fish tank can be incorporated into nursing homes, healthcare facilities, offices, waiting areas, conference rooms, and commercial spaces while remaining practical and easy to maintain.

Although this project was completed years ago, the aquarium remains an active part of the facility and continues to be professionally maintained by Aqua Creations. Regular service helps keep the fish healthy, equipment operating properly, and the aquarium looking its best for residents, visitors, and staff.
